Hermosa Cyclery

Hermosa Cyclery is well-known as the local bike shop offering “free air” for tires near The Strand in Hermosa Beach, with a legacy that stretches over five decades. Established on July 28, 1974, the shop was founded by the much-loved Harold Schumaker, known affectionately as Schu. For 28 years, Schu dedicated his life to running Hermosa Cyclery, treating his staff like family and earning a reputation for his generosity and kindness.

After Schu’s passing in January 2002, it was revealed that he had willed the shop back in 1987 to four of his former employees—Steve Collins, Larry Burke, Mark McNeill, and Ken Liebowitz—who had each worked at Hermosa Cyclery during the late 1970s and 1980s, maintaining strong ties even after moving on to other careers.
